Insulin shot free in 9 months of diet and exercise.\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nlost 40 lbs. \u00a0Just stopped SODA and 1\/3 bread. \u00a0avg drop was 3-4 lbs a month.<br \/>\n92% of the population have no idea what the <strong>two tests<\/strong> \u00a0and their values are. Pretty Shocking considering 30% \u00a0will have diabetes. Diabetes\u00a0can go hand in hand with coronary heart disease. \u00a0<strong>Heredity plays a large role and your family medical history is important.<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Why care?<\/strong>\u00a0Diabetes \u00a0can effect;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>Kidneys, worst case a transplant.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>Eyesight, worst case Blindness.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>Heart, worst case Heart Attack.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>Amputation, Feet \/ Leg<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Nerves<\/p>\n<p><strong>TESTs :<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">-Do you know your fasting AM glucose reading? \u00a0 (base glucose reading) \u00a0Take at 8 am to avoid\u00a0<b>Dawn phenomenon<\/b>, sometimes called the <b>dawn effect<\/b>, is an early-morning (usually between 2 a.m. and 8 a.m.) increase in blood sugar (glucose) relevant to people with diabetes<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">-Do you know your haA1C? (3 months back weighted to the front 3 weeks)<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">-How are the Kidneys? eGFR test. \u00a0 (&gt;60)<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">-How about Vitamin D? Even with SUN exposure Low Vitamin D can be associated.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>There is no way to manage your health without Baseline Metrics ie Results.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>After TEST Baseline &#8211;<a href=\"http:\/\/diabetes.niddk.nih.gov\/dm\/pubs\/comparingtests\/Comparing_Tests_for_DM_508.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Comparing_Tests.pdf<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Prediabetes<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">1. A1C 5.7 percent\u20136.4 percent or<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">2. Fasting plasma glucose (FPG) 100\u2013125 mg\/dL<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Diabetes<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">1. A1C \u2265 6.5 percent (type 2) or<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">2. FPG \u2265 126 mg\/dL<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">For criteria 1\u20132: Repeat test to confirm unless symptoms are present. It is preferable to repeat the same test for confirmation. If two different tests are used (e.g., FPG and A1C), and both indicate diabetes, consider the diagnosis confirmed. If the two different tests are discordant, repeat the test.<\/p>\n<p>Target blood glucose levels for most people with diabetes. \u00a0 70-180<br \/>\n<strong>If prediabetic there are steps to consider first:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>DIET<\/strong>&#8211; Get rid of unnecessary Sugar \/ Carbohydrates. SODA, Extra deserts, etc. Track Carbos. Portion Size.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 <strong>The Rule<\/strong> &#8211; Each 15 gm of carbs = 1. No more than 4 per meal. \u00a0BREADS = 2. \u00a04 x 15 gm = 60gm a meal.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bd.com\/us\/diabetes\/download\/CarbCountWeb2007.pdf\u00a0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bd.com\/us\/diabetes\/download\/CarbCountWeb2007.pdf\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>EXERCISE<\/strong> &#8211; If you are not exercising minimum \u00a0of 30 min 3x a week you need to start. Exercise burns sugar.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">If Exercise and diet do not lower your numbers:<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong> Medication is in order.<\/strong> <strong>\u00a0(can lower A1C 1 to 2 Points)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Metformin<\/strong> is the first choice. Helps insulin work better. There are many different \u00a0types of oral medication that should be discussed with your Doctor. <a href=\"http:\/\/effectivehealthcare.ahrq.gov\/index.cfm\/search-for-guides-reviews-and-reports\/?pageaction=displayproduct&amp;productID=721\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">This link offers a good introduction<\/a>\u00a0 A single pill daily can lower A1C by 1 Point. Two pill combinations can lower A1C by 2 Points.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If Diet, Exercise, and Medication do not achieve control. Then Insulin Shots.<\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">If not caught in time a person may have to start with Insulin, then add oral medication, then reduce the insulin and still achieve control.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>INSULIN<\/strong> &#8211; By shot comes in forms of Short\/fast \u00a0and long\/24. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/skidome.org\/skidome2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/basbolgph.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-1101 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/skidome.org\/skidome2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/basbolgph.jpg\" alt=\"basbolgph\" width=\"318\" height=\"275\" srcset=\"https:\/\/skidome.org\/Skidome3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/basbolgph.jpg 318w, https:\/\/skidome.org\/Skidome3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/basbolgph-300x259.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 318px) 100vw, 318px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The Long Acting is called the <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">BASAL<\/span><\/strong>. It releases slowly over time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The Short Acting is called<strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> BOLUS<\/span><\/strong>. It acts fast and tapers over time. Taken before each of 3 meals. This combination mimics the natural cycle.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">A Doctor will prescribe a UNIT for both types of insulin as a baseline. \u00a0As Meter readings are taken adjustments can be made weekly.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">For BASAL go up one unit till the Morning Fast reads 90-100. \u00a0Adjustment of BOLUS can be done depending on carb load. Tracking tools and meter readings 5 times a day until adjusted. You and your Doctor work as a team. \u00a0 My BASAL started at 40, After 3 months now 50. \u00a0The BOLUS started at 5 units now using 7 to 8 Units per meal.
