One critical area was the toe. Twenty years ago the toe only allowed left and right release. Maximum safety in backward<br \/>\ntwisting-fall situations.<br \/>\nRace Diagonal Toes are tuned for racing purposes. Due to higher release force vertically than horizontally, it holds up to the high backward lean<br \/>\nforces occurring in racing.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h2><b>ABS SYSTEM SAFETY\u00a0 (AFD)<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>Release without any friction significantly reduces strain on ligaments in forward twisting falls. Recalls can and do happen.<br \/>\nPlastic can crack over time with extreme temeperatures.<br \/>\n<b>The DIN setting\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0(release setting)\u00a0 It is a value determined by the skier&#8217;s weight, height, Age, type of skier, and boot sole.<br \/>\nThis value can actually be different from what is displayed on the heel and toe of the binding.<br \/>\nFor instance; A 5 DIN for front and a 4.75 for the heel. Yet both really release for 5 DIN.<br \/>\n<b>SKI TECHNICIAN:<\/b><br \/>\nEach manufacturer every year requires the technician to review material regarding the mounting, maintenance, and testing procedures. The technician must pass a test.\u00a0 The material can be found in the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/skidome.org\/skidome2\/tuning\/binding-science\/tech-manuals\/\">tuning section<\/a>\u00a0under manuals.<\/p>\n<h2><b>TECHNICAL DOCUMENTS:<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>The material can be found in the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.skidome.org\/SKItune.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tuning section<\/a>\u00a0under manuals.<br \/>\nThe\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/elan.create-ion.at\/pdfs\/techn_manual_english.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ELAN<\/a>\u00a0manual is very comprehensive.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><b>TESTING:<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>The only way to know for sure when the binding releases is a Torque Test.
